Sheila Fleet Jewellery has come a long way since she decided to open her first workshop in Orkney back in 1993. From humble origins in a converted shed, Sheila now employs 55 skilled craftspeople in a built for purpose workshop and showroom, and Sheila Fleet Jewellery has become one of Orkney’s best known exports.

Every piece of Sheila Fleet Jewellery is designed, made, finished and packed at her workshop in Orkney. Every singe piece bears the maker’s mark SD (Sheila Dearness – which is Sheila’s maiden name) and also a hallmark from the Edinburgh Assay Office, which demonstrates that it has been independently tested for fineness and quality.

Sheila’s son, Martin, is in charge of running the day-to-day business. The company is committed to nurturing talent and so they employ local skilled craftspeople to make each piece, keeping alive the traditions that have been a part of life in the Orkney islands since Neolithic times. Sheila designs new collections every year and enjoys connecting with her customers at regular Meet the Designer events. As Sheila says: “although the road has been long and hard to get to this point, I have enjoyed the steep learning curve required to run a business in my own way from a designer’s point of view”.

Sheila Fleet Jewellery has built up a reputation in Britain and all over the world for their distinctive designs and high quality. You can see Sheila’s collections at her Workshop in Tankerness and her Gallery in Kirkwall, Orkney.
