1. Ring Inspections
Rings are the one item of jewellery that is probably most prone to encountering the harsh realities of daily life. Although usually the most sentimental pieces of jewellery, they also live on our hands, which we tend to use almost all day, every day. Rings that we wear everyday will encounter many objects and fibres, more so than bracelets, necklaces, earrings and rings that are occasionally worn. As with other everyday items such as clothes and shoes rings do wear over time, inevitably the more you wear your ring the more prone it is to wear and tear; this is why we need to treat our jewellery with exceptional care.
At Nettletons Jewellers we offer an exhaustive ring care service. This service includes inspecting the condition of your rings, whilst advising you of any work that may need carrying out. Ensuring your ring is in a fit state and condition, and that any loose stones or worn claws are acknowledged. We recommend that you have your ring inspected every 12 months, simply to assess the condition of your ring to be on the safe side.
2. Ring Cleaning and Rhodium Plating
The beauty of having an on-site workshop means that we can clean and get your rings sparkling again quickly. White gold rings require rhodium plating due to the properties of the metal. You may find your white gold ring has started to discolour and turn yellow, this isn’t something you need to worry as it’s relatively common. Bring your ring in to the shop and we can assess the state of your ring before rhodium coating it.
Rhodium coating is exactly what it sounds like. It’s the application of a white metal, rhodium, and makes your white gold ring look a lovely vibrant colour. This process can usually be done within the day, as we understand many of our customers like to have their rings back on their fingers as quickly as possible.
Cleaning gold, rose gold, platinum and palladium rings is slightly more straightforward. These precious metals can be polished, removing signs of wear and tear and giving them that new sparkle. Again, we will assess your ring before we take it into the workshop to be cleaned, and advise you of any restoration work your ring may require.
If your ring is set with precious gemstones once we have cleaned and polished the metal we will clean your ring within our ultrasonic machine. The vibration of the plates within the ultrasonic machine helps to remove and dirt and grime that an ordinary clean may not reach.
